Some of the stuff I have been reading about film soundtracks is just fascinating. I've read a fair amount of academic work in film and TV studies at this point--more than the average person without an academic degree in it, at any rate!--and it seems that sound is generally underdiscussed within film and media studies (as bemoaned by the relatively few people who *are* writing about it).

There's a growing field of sound studies which addresses the gap a bit, and there's some scholarship on pop music and on music video, but in general there's just not that much stuff written about music/sound in multimedia narratives and other genres combining visuals with sound. The journals that do--including one called, appropriately enough, Music and the Moving Image are quite new.
